Welcome to Joelville. Population: Me.

Well, this is my first entry in my new blog. I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Joel Proxima. I'm a 25 year old white male living in the beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia. I'm a writer, a web designer, an aspiring photographer (I use the term photographer very loosely) and a certified Electrician. My career choice doesn't necessesarily fit with my creative nature but I'm not terribly bothered by it considering the pay is awesome.

Now, you're probably wondering to yourself "Why did he mention that he was white?" Well, that's a very good question and I'd be happy to answer it. In fact, not only do I have one answer for that question, I have two. The first reason I mentioned I was white is because for some reason people seem to think I look asian in some of my photos. I'm not really bothered by this because there are a few stereotypes out there regarding asians, and two of them are that they're intelligent and creative. I consider myself to be both. I can think of one other stereotype regarding asians... asian males anyway... but we won't go there.

The other reason I mentioned I was white is because being white is fucking awesome. Some people might be offended by this, but I don't see why they should. Those people need to loosen up. Just because I love being white doesn't necessarily mean I'm a white supremecist. I don't believe white people are better than any other race. In fact, I'm a strong believer in science which states that the only thing making a white person different from an east indian person, or a black person, or an asian person is one simple genetic marker. One line of code in a seemingly endless configuration of genetic instructions. We're not that different. We're all carbon based. We all bleed red. We're all composed mainly of water. It just so happens that being proud of my white heritage can sometimes strike a nerve because my European ancestors engaged in expansionist and imperialistic campaigns which spanned the entire globe.

It's no illusion that white people rule the world. It may sound naive or even offensive but the evidence is incontrovertible. As the comedian Louis C.K. once so eloquently put it, if you had a time machine you could visit almost any era in human history and you'd find the white man kicking ass and taking names. I think people should be more proud of their caucasian heritage, not ashamed by it. Although, perhaps I should have said "ruled" the world because the world is changing faster than the blink of an eye. The world's most powerful superpower is now led by a black man (whom I have a great deal of admiration and respect for) and the Chinese are proving they're a dominant cultural force not to be reckoned with. To be completely honest, I'm excited when I think about the direction our world is taking, just so long as all the other races don't do as we did to them and enslave us, pillage our land and rape our women. Sorry about that guys, our bad.
